Tournament Procedure

A list of matches will be posted here as each round commences.

The two randomly paired opponents will be listed, along with their game number and their randomly selected colour.

It is up to the opponents to arrange between themselves a time and place for their match.

You will have 48 hours to complete the match. Afterwards, if the late opponent(s) have not explained why they are missing their position in the tournament will be taken by one of our stand-ins. If there is a viable excuse the game may be postponed and the tournament will continue as far as it can with that game still unplayed.

ONE GAME PER MATCH. Once the game is over BOTH opponents must post here with the following information:

e.g. The first round consists of 8 games, so there should be 16 comments before the next round commences, barring any delays.

Once a round finishes, players will be slotted into the Round Robin Positions accordingly. I won't be posting an updating tree or anything like that (I may maintain a win/loss record) so that no one can easily anticipate their next match. Feel free to play exhibiton games while waiting in between rounds... but IT WILL NOT COUNT as a tournament game until the match is posted here.

There are 30 games in this type of structure. First place will go to the winner of Game 30, second to the loser of Game 30, and 3rd to the loser of Game 29.

Rules

These "rules" are for the most part suggestions rather than strict laws, since it would be cumbersome to try and make sure everything is the same for 30 games. Opponents may switch sides or vary audience options if BOTH PLAYERS AGREE TO IT. These rules are trump cards, essentially: if your opponent will not agree to them but you want to play by them you are in the right, basically.

1) Black or White: All sides have been determined by coin toss for all 30 games except for the championship game, where the "A tree" player (i.e. the current undefeated player) will have their pick.

2a) Timer: It is HIGHLY recommended that you use NO TIMER or at LEAST a 60 minute clock. This is NOT a speed chess tournament (although we may look into that if there's an interest).
2b) If you are using NO TIMER, keep in mind you should finish your game within 48 hours.

3) Draws: All draws will count as a rematch. This rule is not neogotiable.

4) Audience: Allowed, but muted in the chat to prevent hinting.

5) Undo Move: You should only allow this if your opponent has made a obvious MOUSE ERROR. Ultimately though, it is up to you. You are not obliged to return favours, so keep that in mind!

Scoring/Prizes

You'll all gain some sort of points for participating in the tournament all the way through.
Points will be awarded for wins, bonus points for a podium placing (i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd).
There may also be a sig in for you. I'll look into it.
In the future, if these are successful, I'll see if we can get some NG merch to play for, or maybe even a subscription to RHP or someshit. The success of the club depends on your participation!

Notes

If you suspect that there will be a descrepency in a game, or your opponent has disappeared, is being dodgy, whatever, make sure to either get a screenie, email the move history to yourself or simply play on RedHotPawn so the game position can be saved/investigated.
